You’re all set
We prescribed Phexxi. Your prescription has been sent to your pharmacy. We recommend confirming it’s ready before pickup, especially if this is your first time using Phexxi.
What this medication does
Phexxi is a non-hormonal prescription contraceptive gel used right before sex. It works by maintaining the vaginal pH in a range that reduces sperm movement, making it harder for sperm to reach an egg.
Phexxi works only for the sexual activity it is used for. It must be used correctly every time you have vaginal sex to help prevent pregnancy.
How to use
- Use one full applicator each time you have vaginal sex
- Insert the gel into the vagina up to 1 hour before sex
- If you have sex again (even within the same hour), you must use a new applicator each time
- If more than 1 hour passes after insertion and you have not had sex, insert a new applicator before sex
- Phexxi does not provide ongoing protection between sexual encounters
Tip: Keep applicators available where you’ll realistically need them. “Perfect use” depends on convenience.
What to expect
- Mild burning, itching, or irritation (you or your partner) can occur
- Increased vaginal discharge or mild discomfort is possible
- Some people are more prone to urinary symptoms (frequency, burning) or yeast/BV irritation
If symptoms are persistent, worsening, or very uncomfortable, stop use and message us. We can help you decide if Phexxi is still a good fit or if another option would be better.
Important safety information
- Phexxi is not emergency contraception and should not be used after sex to prevent pregnancy
- This medication does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- Using condoms can reduce STI risk and provides extra pregnancy protection
- If you have frequent UTIs or significant vaginal irritation, contact us to discuss safer alternatives
